With our family resolving to buy Nothing New in 2013, this includes gifts for ourselves and others. One of the challenges of buying nothing new for an entire year is that it forces you to really stop and think about the perfect present instead of just shipping a heartless gift card or wrapping up the latest plastic toy. And Mother’s Day is no exception! Tim and the boys are off the hook for having something shiny and new waiting for me on Sunday morning but they now have to come up with something thoughtful and consumable, secondhand, or handmade! No pressure…
So here you go, Hun…a little “wink, wink” and a “nudge, nudge” to help y’all out.
Top 5 (#NothingNew) Mother’s Day Gifts…That Don’t Suck
5. A Love Letter
Not a text. Not an email. An honest-to-goodness REAL letter! Tell Mom how much she means to you and even more importantly, specific reasons for why you love her. It’s absolutely free and will be cherished by wives and moms everywhere. I promise.
4. Home Cleaning Service
Even the most clean-freak mother would love to hang up the gloves and have someone else scrub their toilets for once. Whether you opt for a one-time deep clean or a regular schedule, this gift would be appreciated by any Mom I know!
2. Wash & Detail Her Car
If the Mom in your life feels most loved by acts of service, showing up to find her car washed and detailed inside would remind her how much she’s appreciated every time she drives somewhere! Rather than giving her vouchers or “love coupons” (which all moms adore but feel guilty redeeming), just go out and do it!
1. The Goodies Co. Monthly Snack Subscription
I’m actually pretty excited about this one! The Goodies Co. is a fun way to try out new snacks that hit the market without any real expense to you. Subscribers to the Goodies Co. Taster’s Box receive a monthly box of 5-8 snacks for $7/month (that’s basically postage, yo!). Customers are asked to review products they’ve received, and can accumulate points to redeem for a free Taster’s Box and other rewards.
One of the boxes from last year had my all-time favorite chocolate bar (Alter-Eco)! I only found this amazing good-for-you chocolate bar because I scoured Whole Foods for soy-free/junk-free chocolate bars. Had I been a subscriber back then, this $5 bar would have landed on my doorstep along with a box full of other goodies!
Seems too good to be true? It actually does make sense — companies are trying to push their new products and so they’re willing to take a hit in sending the product to you for next to nothing in hopes that you’ll fall in love with it and buy it on the regular.
The Goodies Co. makes a great Mother’s Day gift because it’s the gift that keeps giving! You can buy a 3, 6, or 12 month subscription for the special Mom in your life (ahem…that’s you…FYI…) and she’ll think of you each time it shows up!
Time is ticking! Cross off “must find Mom something special for Sunday” by making some phone calls for a maid service, writing a love letter, or by simply visiting The Goodies Co. and sending her a box full of yummy snacks!
