Full Disclaimer: The swirls of white you see is whipped cream! Like I said, a bit of fat is good for you!

{ingredients}
1 cup frozen organic blueberries
1/4 cup organic whole milk
3/4 cup water
1/2 a frozen banana
1 tbsp ground flax
1 scoop NOW Sports Natural Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
4 ice cubes

{directions}
Put blueberries, milk, water, and banana in blender. Blend until smooth.

Add flax and protein powder and blend on low speed until mixed through.

Add ice cubes and blend on high until you can no longer here the ice breaking. Don’t blend the ice cubes for too long or you won’t get that cold “ice-cream” feel to your smoothie. If you have a Vitamix, you need to be even more careful of the timing (and go no higher than 7) or else it will heat up the smoothie!

{the “what-the-heck-are-you-talking-about” explanations}

  • I suggest using raw milk if you can get it — do your own research and you’ll see why.
  • I use “whole” milk because untouched fats are good for you and our body doesn’t know what the heck manufactured and processed milk is (i.e. that fat-stripped nonfat nonsense). I just blew your mind, I know.
  • If you use almond milk instead, increase it to 1 cup almond milk and don’t use any water. I suggest making your own almond milk if you can’t find ones without thickening agents (i.e. carageenan). And please don’t use soy milk! Contrary to the soybean marketing messages that have been shoved down your throat, we know processed soy is not a good milk substitute and is actually harmful to our health.
  • When you have bananas that are about to turn, peel them, break them in half, and put them in a freezer Ziploc or container. You won’t waste food and you’ll have easy-to-grab smoothie bananas! Of course, you can also make the addictive and amazing Oh She Glows Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Blizzard with them, too. Consider yourself warned.
