Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz

It should come as no surprise to you that I loved me some musical theatre when I was a teenager. Singing, showboating, pretending I can dance…it’s all aces, really.

One of my biggest roles was landing the part of Scarecrow in The Wiz, a super soulful rendition of The Wizard of Oz, which was later turned into a Broadway musical and then a movie (with Michael Jackson playing the part of Scarecrow).

I’m dating myself by posting this photo which was clearly taken with blur-tastic 35mm film!

So needless to say, I am incredibly excited to catch the latest show to hit The Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz! Judging by the past productions I’ve seen here (including the Broadway production of The Lion King), I’m certain this one won’t disappoint!

We can expose our kids to cultural experiences in many inexpensive ways (as I wrote about in 10 Free Ways To Expose Our Kids to Culture) but well-produced musical theatre offers a tantalizing amount of colorful sets, enthralling music, and engaging storyline to keep older children on the edge of their seats; all while providing an experiential arts education!

After all these years, it may even get some jazz hands out of me.

Don’t miss out! Find tickets for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz,
playing at the SHN Orpheum Theatre October 16-27, 2013.
